The HBS Dormitory

The HBS dormitory (abbreviation of “Hainbuchenstraße”) accomodates about 180 students living in three houses. Aside from a few 2-room apartments and rooms in shared apartments, most of the residents live in 1-room apartments. Some apartments are equipped with a balcony or even a rooftop terrace. All of the rooms are partially furnished (wardrobe, shelf, desk, chair) and contain a kitchenette and a modern bathroom.

In the lower floors of every house, there is a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers, a study room, and a big bicycle room. In addition to the apartment, every resident is assigned a storeroom in the basement. For car owners, the HBS offers free-to-use parking lots.

Neighborhood

The HBS dormitory is located in the west of Aachen in the district Hörn on top of the Königshügel (“kings hill”). In the direct neighborhood, there are two other dormitories of Studierendenwerk Aachen, the FAHO and Studentendorf. Behind those two, the university sports centre is located and within a minute’s walking distance. There it is possible to sign up for one of the many courses or just train by one’s self on the tracks and sports field.

The university canteen “Ahorn 55” in the Computer Science complex and a bakery are also just a few minutes away. To get inside of the city, the buses 33 and 73 stop at Hainbuchenstraße. At the train station Aachen-West (about ten minutes by foot) RE4, RB33, RE18 and RB20 offer a connection to Aachen Central Station and to many other cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.
